Election Slate for 2016 OKAPT

President (2017-2019)

Nancy Rumley Soliz, LMFT, RPT-S
My name is Nancy Rumley Soliz, and I would like to be considered to be your OKAPT President for the 2017-2019 term.  My play therapy journey started when I received my BS at Oklahoma State University in 2004 with a major in Family Relations and Child Development and minor in Psychology.  I then attended Kansas State University, a COAMFTE accredited program, and received by MS in 2008.  During my time at KSU, I attended classes at KC Play Therapy Institute and received my training hours towards my RPT certification.  During my time in Kansas, I worked with a variety of clientele at Ft. Riley and through the on-campus Family Center.

After returning to Oklahoma, I worked for a therapeutic foster care agency as a therapist and moved on to the role of  clinical director.  After over four years at that organization, I worked doing contract work and am now in private practice in NW OKC.  I currently serve as a LMFT Supervisor and RPT Supervisor.  In addition to play therapy, I have received training in EMDR and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy.  A colleague and I have also started Oklahoma Play Therapy Training Institute to bring play therapy training opportunities to the OKC metro.  I have enjoyed serving you on the OKAPT Board the last 2 years and have tried to focus on making communication forefront though helping in the development of the new website, being on a news segment for National Play Therapy Week in OKC, and through helping to run OKAPT Lunch- and-Learn play therapy trainings in OKC.  I hope to continue to work towards promoting play therapy in Oklahoma as your president.  Thank you!

Phyllis Bowen, LCSW
Hi everyone!  I am an Oklahoma native and have always lived in different areas of this beautiful state. I have three adult daughters that continuously inspire me, and have been blessed with two grandchildren. When not working, I enjoy time spent with family and friends. I’ve developed a hobby of taking drives to appreciate and capture nature and landscape photography.  I have 20 years experience working with children and families in the field of early childhood, and have had a long time understanding of “Play being the work of a child.”
In 2006 I earned my Associates in early childhood, in 2009 my bachelors in family studies and gerontology, and in 2013 my MSW in social work. In August of 2013, I began working as a clinical therapist, and in January of this year became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. In September of 2015 I began taking play therapy courses, and expect to apply for RPT by the end of this year. I am a member of APT. I do have a long term goal of perusing a doctoral degree for the purpose of further research with play therapy.

Thank you for your consideration,
Phyllis Bowen, LCSW
