Using the Developmental Concepts of Constancy and Permanency in Play Therapy with SCARF–A Brain Based Model for Collaborating with Others
This workshop assist play therapists and providers in understanding SCARF concepts (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness), which drive and motivate our primitive or downstairs brains to lower threats and increase rewards when we respond to people, social situations, and our environment. We will link SCARF with the development concepts of constancy and permanency, and explore ways to increase caregiver responsiveness to children and teens. Using the classic story of Mowgli from the Jungle Book, participants will learn fun psychoeducational images to use in play therapy and ways to talk with caregivers who struggle when lying, impulses, outbursts, and other difficult behaviors visit. Games that build connection and a sense of constancy and permanency will be also be of this fun play therapy Friday night workshop.
Presenter: Jana L. Neufeld, MSW, LCSW, Registered Play Therapy-Supervisor
