Season Greetings OKAPT  Members,

I hope you are all enjoying the Holiday season! It is such a busy time of year and I know we are all excited to get a break.

Just a reminder the conference will be January 24th and 25th in Oklahoma City for the first time ever. You can register at the We will be have the Annual Meeting after lunch on Saturday, January 25th. I hope to see you all there!

As the year and decade comes to a close I want to encourage you to self reflect. Self reflection is very important in the work we do as therapists. It helps our personal growth along with professional growth as a play therapist. Reflect on the accomplishments that you have achieved as well as mistakes you may have made. Take this information to continue to push yourself to become the person you want to be. We have all worked so very hard to improve the lives of others and, I am very proud to be a part of all we have done and continue to do.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and became a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor in October, 2017. I am currently the Behavioral Health Clinical Director for Caring Hands Healthcare Centers, Inc. in McAlester, OK. I currently serve as the Southeastern Representative for the NASW-Oklahoma Chapter.

I started my career in behavioral health in 2006, working primarily with children and families. Throughout my career, I have noticed; play therapy techniques are useful when providing services to all ages. I encourage all clinicians, especially those working with children and families, to pursue the education and certification. So often do we take a child’s mind for granted, and fail to understand that a child’s mind needs encouragement and positive structure.

I am unaware of a representative in the area I service. I work in McAlester, Coalgate, Atoka, Durant, and surrounding communities. I would love the opportunity to promote the foundation, practice, and benefit of play therapy to all. I would like to nominate myself as the representative for the Southeastern area of Oklahoma for the A4PT.
